So much more than “Sunday School for Adults”! Our Adult Education usually takes place on Sundays during coffee hour (but sometimes, more recently, has been on Zoom during the week at a regularly scheduled time). How do we learn and grow in our spiritual lives? One way of doing this is through Christian formation: the nourishment and stimulation of our faith, in a class setting.
Over the years we’ve had classes on books – Howard Thurman’s “Jesus and the Disinherited” – and books of the Bible, St. Matthew’s Gospel and Job. We’ve listened to the great Aretha Franklin sing “Mary, Don’t You Weep” from her 1972 Gospel recording, and read together a piece called “What Is It Like To Be a Bat?” In 2019, we dove into Civil Discourse, a curriculum developed by ReclaimingJesus.org.
While often moderated by clergy, lay people offer their professional expertise to these gatherings and often run them themselves!
