ST. MARGARET'S (BELFAST, MAINE)

Pastoral Care

St. Margaret’s takes seriously the taking care of one another. Besides the kind word, the pat on the shoulder, the hug (if it’s welcomed) or the warm greeting, we show love through Eucharistic Visitor and Care Groups program.

Eucharistic Visitors are licensed parishioners who bring the eucharist to the homebound and/or sick members of our congregation. When the call went out for individuals to be trained in this important service, 10 people eagerly signed up.

Care Groups are pastoral care in geography! One person serves their “area” – Swanville, Downtown Belfast, Route 3 and others – and makes sure parishioners in their district have their needs met, mostly through phone calls but sometimes through visiting their house. (As one might, with a neighbor.)

And we don’t just offer pastoral care to people in our pews. We extend it to those beyond our church. The Game Loft (https://thegameloft.org/) is a local business and hang-out for kids to meet and play non-electronic games, and St. Margaret’s has funded various endeavors there and parishioners have volunteered in many ways.

We also have a special relationship with Restorative Justice (http://www.rjpmidcoast.org/) and the Mid-Coast Re-Entry Center http://www.rjpmidcoast.org/community-reentry-program.html, a residential program providing support for an inmate’s successful re-entry into the community.
